Beware of Letters requesting money to receive a Property Profile or DeedA new scam to our area targets those who recently purchased a home. Recent buyers receive a letter referencing "Recorded Deed Notice" and specific property and name information. The letter looks "official" and requests $86.00 to receive a copy of "Your Current Grant Deed and Property Assessment Profile." The return address is out of state. Click here for example of letter.
Please note that the information referenced in the letter is Public Record and available for free or for a nominal fee through the Eagle County Clerk and Recorder office or during closing.
While this scam has been around for a few years, Eagle County may be seeing this for the first time. Realtor.com covered this issue in 2014.
